I am very proud of my engineer husband. He has been working for a company that makes artificial hearts. Unfortunately, they discovered that the hearts had a defective cable, so Albert designed a new one. It was talked about in an article today!
Since links tend to disappear, here’s a screenshot of the article for posterity’s [...]

prone to accidents

So one of the things that I have realized over the years is that I am pretty much a walking disaster.
This was highlighted for me when one day in the church copy room I decided to use the electric stapler. I plugged it in and then realized that the cord was wound about itself. So [...]

This week I went to a week-long class on Vocational Excellence. What an outstanding class! I learned so much and felt like it was a huge life-changing experience for me.
One of the goals of the class is to help you develop self-awareness so that you can develop good inner health for the long haul. We [...]

Conversation just overheard:
Albert: Megan, are you going to visit your friend or not?
Megan: Well, she said she wouldn’t be home til 4:30 or 5…..
Albert: So, Megan, are you going to visit your friend or not?
Megan: Uh…… Um……
Daniel: Just flip a coin and if you don’t like the result, do the opposite.
Megan: (brightly) Oh! Ok!
This is [...]
a scientific question

Albert was telling us how he had a physics question on his test that he gave to his physics students. It said, “In a vacuum, what form does a marshmallow take? 1) Smaller 2) Larger 3) Flat and 4) Hollow, like a shell.” The answer is supposed to be larger because there is no atmospheric [...]
the passing of a friend

My friend died this week.
It has been really tough, tougher than I thought it would be. I just talked to him the other week and IM’d him only a few weeks ago. In those interactions, I had no idea it would be the last time.
He took his life and I believe he was only in [...]
aging in reverse: becoming a year younger in one day
Posted in Home and Family on Sat, October 11, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
I blogged before about my mathematical challenges. So here is another example.
I am not a person who cares if people know my age. I always answer if someone asks me how old I am, and have always done that all my life.
So, yesterday someone asked about my age and I said 42. Then today I [...]

Today my sister Corrie had MOPS at my church so she came by with Steven and I got to get more nephew cuddle time, as well as a little photo op. Boy do I have an incredibly cute and photogenic little nephew!
It was only later that I noticed we were wearing Christmas colors!
What was funny [...]
mathematically challenged

It is no surprise to my family that I am mathematically challenged.
Math was never my strong point in school. Of all the math classes I took (up to pre-calc in college), my favorite was geometry, because I got to use different-colored pens to draw pictures (sine waves and cubic solids). I know I wasn’t supposed [...]
A rash of boring meetings

I have always loved meetings. I know that people think that I am extremely strange (and I can’t say I disagree) when I say I have 8 meetings (or more) in one day and look very happy about it.
But lately I have been in a rash of meetings that have taken away my taste for [...]
