me and my cute nephew

Today was a work day for me. I stepped out of my office for a moment, and when I came back, sitting in a chair in my office were my sister Corrie and little nephew Steven!
It was such a nice surprise. I was overcome by Little Nephew Cuteness and of course instantly monopolized him, smothering [...]

college t-shirt

Last week I helped design a t-shirt for our church’s college group. It was recently renamed and Matt, the college pastor, wanted to do a t-shirt to kick off the fall.

He’s doing a series about “10 Things I Love About Jesus,” and came up with a list to put on the back of the shirt.

I [...]

Megan’s first symphony

It’s been awfully busy lately so I haven’t done a good job keeping on top of my posts, but finally after a couple of days of concentrated focus in getting stuff done, I am feeling a bit more caught up! So this news is a little old, but definitely important!
The Event Worth Mentioning [...]

strange clock

Being a designer married to an engineer, I always find it fascinating when people blend a mix of clever mechanical inventions with art.
Today I read about an interesting clock that blends the traditional mechanical clockwork with modern-day LEDs.

I think the gold part and purple LEDs are pretty but don’t particularly care for the insect on [...]

iPhone cupcakes

I seem to have an interest in creative food. Kind of ironic since I don’t like to cook. But I guess I do like cake decorating.
My friend Helen sent me a link to iPhone cupcakes, a winner of the Cupcake Decorating Contest. Sure was creative!

Doesn’t say how they were made but if I had to [...]

Loneliness in Leadership

My friend Brian, who is a pastor, posted a while back about loneliness in leadership. His post really resonated with me, and the number of responses that he received showed that people really care and can relate.

Post-It Note Experiment

I highly enjoyed the Diet Coke and Mentos video, and found out that the same guys have now created a new video with post-it notes.

It’s very well done — high production value, and quite amazing. I can’t believe people are so creative. As my son put it, “Sometimes people have nothing better to do.”
But sure [...]

Space hog

My Macbook Pro has a 120GB hard drive. You would think that’s plenty of space but I always seem to be deleting and moving stuff off.
Over the weeks, my hard drive free space has been dwindling. It hovered around 19GB, down to 17GB. Then, after making all these graphic files, it went down to 9 [...]

Graphic design jargon

I never realized how much jargon is involved in graphic design. I guess all industries have their own jargon, but in the space of 24 hours as I have been around non-designers I have realized how we have a language all our own.
Last night we had a church directory layout meeting. The other graphic designer [...]

Group Life kickoff

Today was Group Life Sunday, our first go-around to have an all-church effort on people joining small groups.
Personally, it was hugely rewarding as it really felt like a team effort with the Group Life team, senior pastor, support staff, communications director, worship director and other helpful people!
We put together a Group Life directory that lists [...]
