Today Matt, our college pastor, who is helping out with Vacation Bible School, told me the quotes of the day that kids told him.
1. He was teaching about the resurrection of Jesus. One child asked, “Oh! Does that mean Jesus was a zombie?”
2. Another kid told him, “Please don’t talk about when Jesus gets crucified. [...]

In Which I Do Dumb Things When I Am Tired
Posted in Home and Family on Tue, July 29, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
When one is in a state of tiredness, it is really quite amazing how bodily and brain functions just slow to molasses.
I am totally not a morning person, but consecutive days of getting up early (which I define before 8 am) has started to take its toll on me, since I usually stay up til [...]

Today our church started the first day of Group Publishing’s Power Labs Vacation Bible School.
The children’s ministry team here has done an outstanding job putting this event together! They are part-time staff but have put in more than full-time hours pulling this together with an incredible army of volunteers.
Registration tables got swamped with new people [...]

Yesterday was the first time I taught a workshop for the homeschooling audience. I’ve spoken at conferences and seminars for years, always to church leaders or volunteers.
This time, I spoke at the Valley Home Educators, a homeschooling convention in Modesto. According to the website, it looks like it is put on by the local homeschooling [...]

My husband calls me a font snob. I have a particular dislike for Comic Sans. I love to try to identify fonts. I suppose it is an occupational hazard of being a graphic designer.
So my sister Corrie sent the link for this site where you can play a game to identify fonts. Honestly I never [...]

Although Albert and I don’t celebrate our anniversary til August, we went away this weekend due to it working out better for our schedule.
We stayed at Arbor House Inn in Napa and had a wonderful weekend relaxing! Our favorite vacation is to get away to a bed and breakfast, walk around the town, enjoy good [...]
Davis symphony

So today Megan went and auditioned for the Davis summer symphony… and made it in!! We were quite amazed, as it is a college-level symphony. I think Megan’s the youngest one in there. 90% are college aged, there are a handful of what look like highschoolers, and then Megan and one other girl look like [...]
techie stuff

I find my time spent in tech stuff frequently. I’m not a tech person but currently work in a lower-tech environment and am finding myself helping others with technical stuff!
So yesterday I fixed the iPhone mail feature for one of the children’s ministry staff.
Today I was happy to help the senior pastor try out video [...]
Me, Myself and Bob

Today, being a day off (because I didn’t get to take my holiday day last week), I tried to stay off the computer most of the day, or I would be tempted to work.
So I read Me, Myself and Bob, by Phil Vischer, the creator of VeggieTales.
I totally loved the book because:
It was funny. I [...]

Our friend Glen has been a huge help as I’ve been working on the small groups ministry, and today he sent this email:
OK, so here’s the deal … I’ve documented a list of milestones I’d like to superimpose over the current implementation plan for UCC Small Groups, which I will recommend to Dan to include [...]
